Understanding and Managing Destinations
Learn how Destinations control where your products are sent, and how to assign, view, and manage them
A Destination is any place in Plytix where products are assigned to be used or shared. This includes Channels, Brand Portals, and Product Data Sheets.
Products are assigned directly to each Destination so you always have a clear, product-level answer to 'where is this product being sent, and why.'
💡 Because assignment lives on the product itself, you can check both directions: which products are in a given Destination, and which Destinations a given product belongs to.

What is a Destination?
Channels, Brand Portals, and Product Data Sheets are all Destinations, any place your product data is sent to or shared from. Each Destination has its own list of assigned products, and a product stays assigned to a Destination until it is specifically removed. Nothing is included or excluded silently.
Viewing the Products in a Destination
- Open the Destination you want to review, a Channel, Brand Portal, or Product Data Sheet.
- Go to the Products tab.
- Here you'll see every product currently assigned to that Destination, along with system attributes such as SKU, Thumbnail, Categories, Last modified, and Created.

Checking a Product's Destinations
Because assignment is stored on the product, you can also check things from the product's side, no need to open each Destination individually.
- Open the Product Detail page.
- Go to the Destinations tab.
- At the top, you'll see the total number of Destinations this product is assigned to, next to a globe icon.
- Below that, the product's Destinations are broken down by type:
- Channels: shows each channel's status (e.g. Draft, Live).
- Brand Portals: shows each portal's status (e.g. Live).
- Product Data Sheets: shows each sheet's status, plus a Last sync timestamp for when the sheet was last generated for this product.
- Click Edit destinations in the top right to make changes.

This is the fastest way to answer 'why is this product in (or missing from) my Channel, Brand Portal, or Product Data Sheet?'
Assigning Products to a Destination
There are four ways to add or remove products from a Destination:
From inside the Destination
- Open the Destination and go to the Products tab.
- Click Add products.

- In the Add products window, use the All products and Selected tabs to browse everything available or review what you've already checked off.
- Use the Search by SKU or label field to find specific products, or tick the Select all checkbox to select everything shown.
- Tick the checkbox next to each product you want to add. The product count at the bottom left (e.g. 60 products) reflects the total available to choose from.
- Click the Save button to confirm, or the Cancel button to back out.

To deselect a product you're about to add, but haven't saved yet, go to the Selected tab within the Add products window and click the X icon beside it. This only removes it from your current selection, it has no effect on products already assigned to the Destination.
To remove a product that's already assigned to the Destination, go to the Products tab, tick the checkbox next to the product(s) you want to remove, then click the Remove from destination button in the toolbar that appears at the bottom of the screen.

From Product Overview
- Go to the Products page.
- Edit a single product's Destination assignment in-cell, or select multiple products to open the bulk action bar at the bottom of the screen.
- From the bulk action bar's edit icon, choose the Edit destinations option (alongside other bulk options like Edit attributes, Edit media, Find and replace, Edit categories, and Edit relationships).

- In the Edit destinations window, use the Add destinations dropdown to choose how this action should behave:
- Add destinations: adds the selected Destinations to the products, keeping any existing assignments intact.
- Replace destinations: replaces the products' current Destinations with your new selection.
- Remove destinations: removes the selected Destinations from the products.
- Under All destinations, expand Channels, Brand Portals, or Product Data Sheets to tick the specific ones you want, each shows a count of how many exist. Use Search by attribute if you're looking for a specific one, or Collapse all to tidy the view.
- Click Save'.

From the Product Detail page
- Open a product.
- Go to the Destinations tab.
- Click Edit Destinations.

- In the Edit destinations window, use the Add destinations dropdown to choose how this action should behave:
- Add destinations: adds the selected Destinations to the product, keeping any existing assignments intact.
- Replace destinations: replaces the product's current Destinations with your new selection.
- Remove destinations: removes the selected Destinations from the product.
- Under the All destinations section, expand Channels, Brand Portals, or Product Data Sheets to tick the specific ones you want.
- Click the Save button.

With Automations
- Go to the Automations page and create or edit a rule.
- Set the Trigger conditions you want, for example Product matches condition or Product created.
- Under the Action section, click the Add action button and choose the Edit destinations option (alongside other actions like AI Edit, Edit attributes, Find and replace, Edit relationships, Edit categories, and Assign family).
- In the Edit destinations window, use the Add destinations dropdown to choose how this action should behave:
- Add destinations: adds the selected Destinations to matching products, keeping any existing assignments intact.
- Replace destinations: replaces matching products' current Destinations with your new selection.
- Remove destinations: removes the selected Destinations from matching products.
- Under the All destinations section, expand Channels, Brand Portals, or Product Data Sheets to tick the specific ones you want the rule to apply.
- Save the Automation. Matching products will be kept up to date automatically going forward.

⚠️ Automations only apply the action you configure, a product isn't removed from a Destination just because it stops matching a filter, unless you've explicitly set the Automation to remove it. This keeps Destination assignment predictable.
Filtering Products by Destination
You can also use Destinations as a filter in Product Overview, useful for answering questions like 'which products are missing from this Brand Portal?' or 'which products are assigned to this Channel?'
- Go to Products and open the filter panel.
- Click New filter.
- Under Start from, choose Destinations (alongside other filter starting points like Attributes, Media, Family or product type, Categories, Relationships, and Created or modified).

- Pick the specific Destination type you want to filter by: Brand Portals, Channels, or Product Data Sheets.
- Choose an operator for the filter:
- Has value: the product is assigned to at least one Destination of this type.
- Is empty: the product isn't assigned to any Destination of this type.
- Contains any of: the product is assigned to one or more specific Destinations you select.
- Does not contain any of: the product is not assigned to any of the specific Destinations you select.

To refine your results further, add another filter and choose whether it should combine with the first using And or Or logic. For example, you could filter for products where Channels contains any of 'Google Shopping' AND Product Data Sheets is empty, to find products live on that channel but missing a data sheet.
The product count at the bottom of the panel updates live as you refine your filter, so you can confirm your results before applying them elsewhere (e.g. in a bulk edit or export).
Setting Inheritance for Destinations
By default, a product's variants are assigned to Destinations independently from their parent, assigning a parent doesn't automatically bring its variants along. Inheritance lets you change that for a given Destination, so a parent and all its variants stay in sync automatically.
You can find and configure this per Destination type at the Product Family level:
- Go to Settings → Products → Families.
- Open the family you want to configure.

- On the Attributes tab, alongside the system attribute toggles (SYS Label, SYS Categories, SYS Thumbnail, SYS Status), you'll see a toggle for each Destination type: Channels, Brand Portals, and Product Data Sheets. Each shows whether inheritance is ON or OFF, and if it's on, which variant Level it applies to.
- Click Edit inheritance to open the Edit inheritance status window.
- Use the dropdown at the top to select the Destination type you want to configure, for example Channels.

- Under Inheritance status, choose one of three settings:
- OFF: variants are assigned to Destinations independently, assigning the parent has no effect on its variants.
- ON (Level 1): variants at the first level below the parent automatically inherit the parent's Destination assignments.
- ON (Level 2): inheritance extends one level further, to the second level of variants below the parent.
- Click Save.

💡 This is especially useful for catalogs where variants, like size or colour, should always be included wherever their parent product is, without assigning each one individually.
Setting Permissions for Editing Destinations
Product-level permissions let you control exactly who can change Destination assignments, separately from who can simply view them.
- Go to Settings → Team → Roles and open the role you want to configure.

- Scroll to the Destinations section.
- For each Destination type, Channels, Brand portals, and Product data sheets, set the permission to Edit, View, or None.
